RE: Improvements for Camper Bench seats

I'm sure this is a common complaint.
TC dinette bench seats are made with no thoughts of ergonomics.
If I recall there was a thread on RV.net about changing the bench with leather recliners?

RE: Full time TC world traveler

Where are the camper tie downs? And what is that black thing that runs along the side of truck hood up to the camper? And what is a "sand ladder"??
It is a neat looking outfit. Rather compact and very tough looking.
Paulette
that black thing that runs along the side of truck hood is the snorkel. This rig is well equipped to go way off road and in deep mud/water. This snorkel is for the air intake of the truck engine.
Sand ladders are the metal pieces bolted to the front bumper. There are 6 ladders total to get them across terrain you would expect the need of tracks.

RE: Deciding on RV TV Antennas

Rabbit ears will work better than what you are currently looking at.
consider through bolting on the TC roof. Go with the "Bat wing" style.

Full time TC world traveler

During our weekend getaway in the NC mountains we stopped on the Blue Ridge Parkway campground near Blowing Rock. We met a real full time TC world traveler. This couple from Germany has been all over Europe, Australia, North America including Alaska and most of the lower 48.
They were on the way to Baltimore MD to board a ship to South America for a ten month tour. There voyage will be a total tour of 3.5 years.
Interestingly they use no propane, very small fridge that runs on 12 VDC only. Single battery with a large solar Panel. Good thing Germans like their beer warm.German TC

RE: New guy looking to tap your knowledge

If you like you should buy. I lost $2,000 on depreciation taking delivery of my TC.
Your stock truck will tow/haul just fine without any modifications.
Have fun

I get what you are saying now

Well, I have had my TC for 1 year now. I decided to go over everything for PM (Preventative Maintenance). No signs of any leaks. all mechanical, electrical, and safety systems are working correctly.
I found that all 4 Happy Jacks had some corrosion on the extension tubes. After much work removing the rust and repainting, looks like new again. I removed the tape that I used to prevent overspray from getting on the outer tube. The factory powder coat pulled right off. It appears the outer tube is rusting from inside or under the paint.

I'm starting to see why they have a nickname of "Crappy Jacks"

RE: where do you mount your television your truck camper?

50" Panny Plasma in the front hitch basket. It's like going to the Drive-In movies when we were kids !
I need PIC's on this one.

RE: Went shopping for a newer truck today, aarrrgg!

every salesperson had a million reasons why the truck they were trying to sell me was better then the others what are your real world experiences?
I know this does not address your question however, ask any of the salesmen (between all the BS they are laying on you) about drive train warranty. 80,000 of what kind of miles? highway vs. city, off road vs flatland or hills and mountains. One never really knows the truck history and maintenance schedule. If I recall ford offers a extended warranty on the power stroke engine up to 200,000 miles?
just a thought.

RE: Advice on options

In my opinion, factory installed TV's, DVD, radio, speakers are all junk.
This is not limited to just TC but rather all RV's.
Good luck,

RE: Anyone else tried filling their Northern Lite with water?

What about a large dehumidifier? you would know when the TC is completely dry. I had borrowed/used one when I had a hot water tank leak in my basement. Very impressive results in that application.

RE: How to Unload on a Slant -- NOT!!!

Not so fast with judgment. Could there be any benefit here?
I have an uncle that had a car with a blown engine. He was unable to sell the car in this condition. So he parked it on a busy street. Sure enough that week some guy crashed into the parked car. Total loss said the insurance company, here is your (book value)check.
Just some food for thought.

TC Back porch/deck

After seeing some of the ingenuity concerning rear decks at the Mid Atlantic TC rally I'm considering adding a rear deck (Back porch) to my rig.
If you fellow TC owners with rear decks would be kind enough to post some photos showing construction materials and mounting versatility.
The TC university page has very limited examples and maybe Brad would consider adding/update with new photos.
Thank you in advance,
Myrtle

RE: Cabover Vent/Hatch

I have the Dometic lighted skylight/escape hatch on our Northern Lite.
Pros,
1) the opening is large enough to get my fat butt out in an emergency.
2) good seal, no leaks thus far. the rubber seal is easily replaceable
Cons,
1)a very expensive option
2) made of acrylic, scratches easily. must take extra care washing/cleaning.
In my opinion, I'm very satisfied. It has more than exceeded my expectations. For an escape hatch, you cant beat it.
Over all, I love it. I would not ever consider another TC without one.
The scratches are very easy to repair with the cleaner and scratch remover that was supplied by the dealer.

I'd like to hear the story behind that last pic of the Ford fire! Saddening. :(
There have been many stories just like this and even worse.

RE: Truck fire w/pics

skills4lou,
WOW, this is alarming to say the least.
to many "what ifs" on this one. The Truck and TC can be replaced but you and your family were in harms way. As it was already said, what if you were camping!!!! This should be reported with an incident report to the manufacture of the truck.
Please take the time to have this investigated with your local dealer to see if there might be a bulletin or even a recall. Please keep everyone informed of any info of any suspicious causes. I would not think H2O alone would have caused this?
Extra prayer of thanks tonight.
Best regards,
Myrtle
